day 0 - a new game start
an idea that kept spinning in my head until i finally built enough head cannon for the motivation to build it out
Broken Colony
a curiosity
i got into a YT rabbit hole of paradoxes and physics mysteries and kinda got sucked into the idea of Brane Cosmology, which is related to String Theory. idk, i just really loved this idea of exploring religion in the context of a separate mesh influencing and/or nudging another mesh. add on top of this i had just finished watching the Foundation tv show and was really into the idea of a small colony outpost in a technologically advanced world. also, Scavenger's Reign was so good and that also really focused on what some of these interpersonal relationships would look like when things go wrong.
the game
i've been a longtime fan of Banished and got the itch to make a small scale village builder. as i was thinking about it, i wanted to have some sort of backstory that wasn't just i'm just an exile, or something like that. so for now i'm thinking that our colonists have been transported and then woken up. they just need to survive. they have no memories, no missions.
you as the player are one of the Other beings and you are able to influence the colonists to build and/or make decisions but aren't explicitly controlling any one person.
the picture i found and attached is (i'm assuming) AI but it illustrates how i think of this.
anyways, just the start of an idea. sounded cool to me and luckily a city builder doesn't need much backstory.
the pitch
i feel like this idea (in game terms) is Banished meets CK3 meets The Sims. it's less about trying to be Factorio and more about how the difficulties of a small isolated colony unfold.
